Phad 6 - Kalyan Joshi
Phad painting is a traditional folk art form of Rajasthan, depicting religious themes on long scrolls of cloth or canvas, known as Phad. These paintings illustrate the narratives of folk deities such as Devnarayan and Pabuji. Historically, the Bhopas—priest-singers—carried these painted Phads as mobile temples, using them to narrate divine stories.
Phads are traditionally painted with vegetable colors and can range in length, with Pabuji’s Phads measuring about 15 feet and Devnarayan’s Phads extending up to 30 feet. This unique art form has been passed down for generations and remains a treasured part of Indian heritage.
